When you create your minisite you’ll want to ensure that your site is attractive, the content is easy to read, and that there isn’t anything distracting your visitors from staying focused on your message.
You want the look and feel of your website to put your visitors at ease, as well as inform them of your offer. If they are not comfortable, and are annoyed with elements of your site they will hit the back button before you know it.

Here are some design pointers that will help you create an attractive minisite that is easy to read, which will help keep your web visitors engaged with your content:

  • Always use Dark text on light background for it is much easier to read

  • Use Headlines and sub headings to bring attention to portions of your text, which will keep your visitors interested

  • Break up paragraphs into readable chunks

  • Use additional line breaks, bullets, padding and block quotes to incorporate more white space so content doesn't look crowded, which can make the visitor uncomfortable

  • Know the demographics of your visitors so can have an idea of  what color scheme they would most appreciate.

  • Don’t choose ugly or super bright backgrounds in the effort of being unique.

  • Keep colors to a minimum so the site doesn’t look too busy

  • Use colored text and bold formatting to bring emphasis to specific words and statements

  • Use tables with colored background and border to bring attention to specific text, which will also break up your web page and make more appealing

  • Keep your minisite pages at a fixed width – Usually no more than 700 pixels when using a one column table and 750-800 pixels when using a two column table. Having a fixed width will ensure that the site will look the way you want it to look on your visitors monitors. This is especially important for visitors that have a widescreen monitor.

  • Test your web pages in both Explorer and Firefox to ensure that it is looking the way you want it. When the pages have been edited so that they appear the same in these two browsers you should be good to go.
